♥ Prepare yourself to learn a lot and…fragrances, enjoy!
Hi Loves!
I remember writing reviews about perfumes and fragrances and I mentioned terms like: top, heart and base “notes”. To be honest, before I read Beautyblogs, I didn’t even know that there was a top, heart and a base in a fragrance or perfume.
I just thought there was one smell, and that’s it. So today I’m going to tell you all about fragrances:
the differences between the terms in Fragrance Walhalla.
Prepare yourself to learn a lot and… enjoy!
The aromatic substances in a perfume dissolve in a solvent like alcohol or water. The percentage of the substances together with the solvent determine the strength of the smell.
Fragrances > Perfume:
20 – 40%
This is really valuable and expensive.
Apply a few tiny drops on your body and you’ll smell nice the whole day.
The strength of the smell is quite heavy, so this is normally worn by elder people.
> Eau the Perfume
10 – 20%
Less expensive, though it still has a very strong concentration.
You’ll only need two/three sprays and again: you’ll smell lovely the whole day
> Eau the Toilette
5 – 10%
Originally, this was meant to be a “body splash”, meanwhile it’s accepted as a fragrance.
The smell fades during the day, so the best thing you can do is: using the matching bodylotion and to take the bottle with you,
so that you can spray again during the day.
> Eau de Cologne
3 – 5%
A very light and mellow variation to the Eau the Toilette.
This is ideal when you go on holiday somewhere really hot, or for people who like a subtle smell.
Reading the Notes
The composition of the notes in fragrances are determining for the fragrance you’ll eventually smell.
The ordering of the oils is also really important. In the beginning the scent will be different from what you’ll smell after an hour.
> Top note
This is the “first impression” of the fragrance and fades as first, after about.. 20 mintues. A top note used a lot is, for example, citrus scents.
> Heart Note
You’ll only smell the heart note after the top note has disappeared. The Heart notes are mostly flower scents, like jasmin
> Base Note
This note is the one that will stay on your body for a long time. Mostly musk or woody scents.
Which notes fit my personality?
Now this is a tricky one, because you might like complete different notes. However, it’s worth the try. So here we go!
