♥ CHANEL No 5; elegance, famous, feminine and legendary character that never loses its appeal. Combine it with elegant lingerie and you feel glamorous.

Chanel No 5 is the one that you want, for sure. It’s a true classic that screams elegance, famous, feminine and legendary. I had absolutely no clue of the smell, but one thing I did know and that was; I wanted to be the proud owner of a Chanel No 5.

Last year, Santa fulfilled my wish and I found a stunning present under the Christmas tree, wrapped in beautiful paper with decorations on top. My first Chanel No 5!

But what is all the fuss about? Why is it so famous and wanted? Why is it a classic, a must-have, a legendary something?

It’s the one that you want, geen twijfel mogelijk. Het is een echte klassieker; Elegant, Beroemd, Vrouwelijk en Legendarisch. Ik had geen idee over hoe het zou ruiken, maar één ding wist ik wel: ik wilde de trotste eigenaresse zijn van een Chanel No.5

Vorig jaar heeft de Kerstman mijn wens in vervulling gebracht. Ik vond een prachtig pakketje onder de Kerstboom, ingepakt in super mooi papier met strikjes, glitters en andere decoraties. Mijn allereerste Chanel No.5! wrapped decorations

Maar waar gaat het nou eigenlijk over? Waarom is iedereen toch zo gek op Chanel No.5? Waarom is het een klassieker, een must-have, een legendarisch iets? En waarom heet het No.5?

Why is it called No 5? The story tells, Coco Chanel asked the famous perfume mixer Ernest Beaux to create six perfumes (-that smell like a woman), from which she’d choose her favorite. Her favorite would be added to her collection.

The six perfumes were simply called No.1 till No.6. Like you can guess, No  5 was Coco’s favorite.

Funfact: number five was also Coco’s lucky number. She wanted her perfume to be the most expensive one. Jasmine oil was the most expensive oil used for preparing perfumes. So Jasmine oil is used as the base of No 5.
Coco álso had the ambition to come up with the cheapest perfume, however Jean Patou was first, with his perfume “Joy”. 

Het verhaal gaat, dat Coco Chanel de beroemde Parfum mixer Ernest Beau, had gevraagd om zes parfums te creëren. Deze moesten ruiken naar “de vrouw”. Tussen de zes parfums zou zij uiteindelijk haar favoriet kiezen en die toevoegen aan haar parfum-collectie.

De zes parfums werden simpelweg genummerd van 1 tot en met 6. Zoals je waarschijnlijk wel kunt raden, was nummer 5 Coco’s favoriet. Grappig weetje: nummer vijf was ook Coco’s geluksgetal. Coco wilde dat haar parfum het allerduurste op de markt zou zijn. Jasmijn olie was de duurste olie die werd gebruikt voor het maken van parfums en was dan ook de basis van No.5. Coco wilde echter ook de goedkoopste geur op de markt brengen, maar Jean Patou was haar voor met zijn geur “Joy”.

Chanel N°5 is a very complex fragrance that- as requested by Coco –should not smell like a rose, or a lily of the valley, but as a composition. It’s the first perfume that depends on synthetic fragrances. Coco thought an unnatural perfume would accentuate the beauty of the one who’d wear it. That’s why it would be successful – according to Coco, and I think we can all agree that she was right!

There are three different ‘versions’ of Chanel No 5: pure perfume (most expensive, because it’s more concentrated), eau the perfume, and eau the toilette. Read this article if you want to know the difference between a perfume and eau the toilette.

Chanel N°5 is een complexe geur, die –zoals Coco had aangegeven- niet naar een roos moest ruiken, of een lelietje van dalen, maar als een compositie van geuren. Het was dan ook de eerste geur die afhing van synthetische geuren. Coco had bedacht, dat een niet-natuurlijk parfum de schoonheid van de drager zou accentueren. Dit was volgens haar “de sleutel tot succes” en een succes werd (en is) het zeker!

De parfum werd zo beroemd, doordat veel beroemdheden de geur gingen dragen, zo ook

Er zijn drie verschillende “versies” van Chanel No.5: de pure parfum (deze is het duurst vanwege de hoge concentratie en je hebt er maar een beetje van nodig), eau de toilette en eau de parfum.
