Ways to save money on shopping

We all love beautiful (most of the time expensive) things, but like everybody does: we also need to make sure we don’t spend too much money. No matter what, we recessionista’s will  succeed in looking trendy this year, but with a limited budget.
Therefore today: Ways to save money on shopping

    )

    ♥ Think about it

Ok, if it’s something that is on sale, or if there’s only one item left and you know for sure you absolutely need it in your wardrobe: then get it. But when it comes to huge expenses, like a new coat, shoes, bag or jewelry: take some time to rethink. Take a picture, look at it over and over again, make combinations in your head and then decide if you want to buy it or not. This way you’ll definitely save money on shopping.

♥ Only buy when you’re blown away

The “Do I really need it?”-sentence is one that don’t really like… Of course you don’t really need those new shoes, that stunning dress or fabulous bag, but once in a while you’re allowed to get yourself something you really like. However, you should ask yourself if you’re really blown away by it. Does it add anything to your wardrobe? Is it special? Are you blown away?

    ♥ Go shopping for ideas

Leave your wallet at home and just go to the stores to get some ideas. See what’s on the racks, try the things that really stand out and observe people who are shopping or working there. You’ll probably get tons of new ideas for combinations after this. Go home, see what’s inside your own closet and make new combinations. You probably have more than you think.

♥ Take your time to shop

Time is money, but it can also save money on shopping. It’s very tempting to go to that same store and buy everything there, but try looking for different stores, to see if something is cheaper somewhere else. Especially with basics: you might get the (almost) exact same thing in a different store, so take your time to shop.

♥ Visit outlets, discount- and vintage stores

Yes, it’s very tempting to buy it all, especially when the price is just right, but don’t buy anything unless you’re 100% sure you’re going to wear it. Also: don’t buy things that don’t fit. I’ve made this mistake twice… One time I bought shoes that were too small, your feet aren’t going to shrink so that’s just a no-go and one time I’ve bought shoes that were too large. (However, with a few tricks that might be solvable.)

♥ Make a list of things that you want to buy

With a full debit card in your pocket, it’s easy to spend too much. Save money on shopping, by making a list of things that you  want. For example: go through your closet and see what’s missing. Is it a neat jacket, the perfect denim jeans, a little black dress, midi-skirt? Write it down and look for these items only. Don’t get distracted by other beautiful things you see while shopping, stick to your list.

♥ Make your own clothing, or let it alternate by someone.

From really designing and making your own clothing, to customizing them. It’s fun, unique ánd saves you money, because when you’re at home customizing your clothing, you don’t have the time to buy new things in stores 😉

    ♥ Cherish your things

Treat your clothing and things with love and respect, so that they’ll last longer. Try these tips to keep your denim jeans stunning, secure your wardrobe to moths and prevent your bag or belt from damaging your clothing.

    ♥ Go for something unique

It’s not only about the it-items and must haves. Go for something that strikes you, catches your eye, something unique and you. When you buy something “you”, you won’t end up having items that are not “trendy” anymore.

Wonderful tips!!! 🙂 I couldn’t agree more. I have walked into my fave stores and basically if it doesn’t make me squeal like a teen at a Taylor Swift concert I won’t buy it. Although there are times I do impulse buy. And don’t ever go angry shopping! Also food shopping on an empty tummy is a no no too.
