♥ I went to a vintage store, just for fun and without expectations. Then I saw it.
You’ve probably searched for hours, days, for the perfect (college) bag.
You know what? I just choose a bag that matches my outfit,
which can vary from day to day of course.
UNTIL SUDDENLY… I went to a vintage store, just for fun and without expectations. Then I saw it. A brown leather bag, shaped in the way I silently wás looking for, for a really long time… With a Disney emblem of Mickey Mouse. Cupido fired his bow and woosh, I felt in love with the bag.
I’m not a die-hard fan of Disney
I’ve never been to Disneyland… But I do like the feeling of this bag, the nostalgy of childhood.
Mickey Mouse and the edgy/oldness of the rest of the bag. Bonus: it’s vintage, I love vintage. Why? Because the items have a story, because nobody else has the same thing, because… it has to be in your size/taste so it’s extra special if it is.
Never able to find treasures in a vintage store?
Here are some pointers for finding treasures in a vintage store.
- Don’t expect to find anything.
Because you usually don’t. It’s fun to be there, to take a look, let all the go through your fingers… and that’s it. So be open-minded when you enter a vintage store.
- Sometimes, you have to make some alternations yourself.
Like the leatherskirt in this article; also vintage. It was a long skirt, not my taste at all, I cut it off and then it suddenly became trendy and totally my taste after all. So… try to see things through.
- Look at the collections from your favorite designers.
It would be terrific if you’d find something from your favorite designer in a vintage store, but.. chances are very limited that you will. But what you can do is: look at clothing that have the same look and feel. For example: prints can be very similar to those from designers, or maybe it’s the fit or the use of fabric. Maybe even the way something is sewed. Keep your eyes open!
- Is it really your taste?
Or is it just something from an expensive brand, but now really cheap? I’ve had times, that I bought something because it was a brand and it was cheap… But eventually I threw it away, because it wasn’t really my thing. So ask yourself:
-Do I like it?
-Am I going to wear this?
-Am I willing to pay this price for it?
-Do I need it?
The last one is a tricky one, because what is needing something. I mean.. I nééd a Chanel bag, Valentino shoes, a new car… But really?
However, if it’s a once in a life time thing, as in: I’ve never seen this before, I’ll never see this again, it only costs … euros. BUY IT. Just do it.
